Humble Beginnings

Well, I decided to purchase my first gi (Karate uniform) tonight after attending three previous sessions. It's black in the Isshin-Ryu tradition with a white obi (belt) classifying me as a beginner. This made my soon-to-be five-year-old very happy. He has been attending classes for about 8 weeks. Since I'm there anyway, I decided to make the most of my time. I'm also glad to be able to participate with a few of my close friends.

The local Baptist church is offering free Karate lessons to the community. It appears to be an effective way to bring the locals into a church setting. And will hopefully get people interested in learning more about Jesus. We always pray at the end of class and the instructors interject Christian thoughts and principles into their teachings.

I'm learning to execute some basic punches and kicks. I'm also attempting to learn how to perform the Seisan Kata (pre-determined defense, attack and counter-attack exercises). Hopefully, I can progress quickly and move up the ranks while learning as much as possible. The orange belt is next.
